Before This Was a Business, It Was Just Our Family.

Long before there was a storefront, a manufacturing facility, or bottles shipping across the country, there was simply a husband, a wife, and three little children we loved more than anything. We never intended to start a business. We were simply trying to care for our family.

The Girl Who Hated Medicine

Growing up, I hated medicine.

I couldn't swallow pills, so my mom would open capsules and mix the powder into a spoonful of grape Kool-Aid just to get me to take it.

I remember the tears.

The arguments.

The nights we sat at the kitchen table trying to get another dose down.

Sometimes I would eventually take it.

Sometimes neither of us had the energy left to fight.

By the time I felt better, we were both so exhausted from the battle that we often didn't even finish the full course.

At the time, it was simply part of growing up.

Where The Seeds Were Planted

Years later, I met Dr. Findley.

What started as a simple conversation grew into years of learning, questions, guidance, and encouragement.

Through that relationship, I was introduced to a different way of thinking about health; one centered on nourishment, daily habits, and supporting wellness before problems arise.

Those conversations planted seeds that would eventually shape how Jake and I raised our family, how we approached health in our home, and ultimately the journey that led to The POWER of Elderberries®.

A Moment I'll Never Forget

While pregnant with our son Beckham, I found myself curled up on the floor of a doctor's office lobby, exhausted, sick, and desperate for relief.

I had been waiting for hours.

As an expecting mother, I was worried about my unborn child and unsure what to do next. I wasn't comfortable with the traditional options being offered, but I also didn't know where else to turn.

So while sitting there waiting, I began searching for natural remedies online.

That's when I discovered elderberries.

At the time, I wasn't searching for a business.

I wasn't searching for a mission.

I was simply a pregnant mom trying to feel better.

When I finally got my hands on a bottle of elderberry syrup, I remember how I didn't like the taste, but I was willing to try anything.

Back then, it was just Jake, Rowyn, and I.

I had no idea that experience would one day become part of a much bigger story.

When History Repeated Itself

Not too long after, when our daughter was around the age of two, I began bringing home different elderberry products.

There was just one problem.

She wouldn't take any of them.

The taste.

The resistance.

It immediately took me back to my own childhood.

The tears.

The arguments.

The spoonfuls of medicine I never wanted.

Eventually, I stopped trying.

Life moved on.

And elderberry became little more than a memory.

The Prayer

Several years later, our family was walking through a difficult season.

Jake wasn't feeling well.

Doctor appointments became routine.

Blood work, supplements, medical bills, and uncertainty filled our days.

At the same time, cold and flu season was making its way through our community, and I found myself thinking back to my own experience with elderberry syrup while pregnant with Beckham.

I remembered how much it had meant to me.

But I also remembered how terrible it tasted.

By then, we had three children.

I wasn’t interested in fighting the same battle I remembered from my own childhood.

So I decided to make my own.

I wasn't trying to start a business.

I wasn't trying to create a brand.

I simply wanted something I felt good about giving my family.

Around that same time, I found myself on my knees praying.

We were financially stretched.

I asked God to show me a way to help provide for our family.

Waiting tables.

Selling things from our home.

Anything.

I had no idea the answer was already simmering on my stove.

The Answer Didn't Look Like An Answer

I shared a photo online of a few jars I had made for our family.

I told people about my own experience.

I encouraged them to find elderberry syrup for their families if they were looking for additional wellness support during cold and flu season.

Then something unexpected happened.

Friends began asking if I had extra.

Would I sell them a bottle?

Then another friend asked.

Then another.

In that moment, I realized the answer to my prayer wasn't going to come from waiting tables or finding a second job.

It was sitting right there on my stove.

God had answered my prayer in a way I never could have imagined.

The Kitchen Table Years

The first batches were made in our kitchen.

The kids were little.

Batches were made around family life.

After our three children were asleep, we'd spend evenings cooking elderberry syrup, labeling bottles at the kitchen table, and organizing orders late into the night.

Many nights, it was 2 or 3 a.m. before we finally finished cleaning up the kitchen.

A few hours later, we'd wake up, head to our full-time jobs, and do it all again.

We listened to Billy Graham sermons while cooking and organizing orders, praying over the work in front of us and trusting God with the rest.

After each batch finished simmering, I would transfer the elderberries to a mesh bag and squeeze every last drop of elderberry by hand.

We didn't have a wine press then.

Just rubber gloves, tired hands, and a determination to make the very best product we could.

Every batch taught us something new.

UPS trucks became a daily sight at our house.

Neighbors started wondering what in the world we were doing.

More than once, desperate moms knocked on our door while we were sitting down for family dinner, hoping we had elderberry syrup available for their families.

Building Something Bigger

Around that same time, my teaching schedule at Coastal Carolina University changed dramatically.

For the first time in nearly a decade, most of my classes were consolidated and my full-time position quickly became part-time that semester.

Looking back, I can see God's timing in all of it.

What felt uncertain at the time created space for me to step fully into what was growing in our kitchen.

Every day, I made phone calls, attended safety certification classes, and sought guidance from agencies and mentors who could help us grow responsibly.

We even invited a friend, who had experience as a Chef, into our home to help us improve our process and teach us things about equipment we didn't yet know.

Little did we realize he would eventually become our Director of Operations and still be part of our story today.

What Started As Obedience Became A Calling

We never imagined any of this.

We simply kept saying yes to the next opportunity in front of us.

One customer became ten.

Ten became hundreds.

Hundreds became thousands.

Looking back, what felt like small acts of obedience eventually became something far bigger than we ever imagined.

The Classroom Got Bigger

For nearly twelve years, I taught Personal & Community Health courses at Coastal Carolina University.

I loved the classroom.

I loved my students.

I loved helping people understand the connection between daily choices and long-term wellness.

When I left, I really struggled.

Not for weeks.

For years.

I wrestled with questions I couldn't answer.

Why would God pull me away from something I loved so much?

There were seasons of grief.

Seasons of resentment.

Even moments of anger.

I didn't want to leave the classroom.

I loved it.

One day, in the middle of all those questions, I felt God speak to my heart:

"Darlin', I didn't pull you out of the classroom. I just wanted to make your classroom bigger."

Looking back now, I understand.

What once reached 150 students each semester now reaches families in homes all across America.

The mission never changed.

Helping people make informed decisions about their health.

The classroom just simply got bigger.

What started at our kitchen table has grown far beyond anything we imagined.

Yet at the heart of it all, we're still the same family that started this journey around the kitchen table.

A Note From Jessica

If you've made it this far, thank you.

Truly.

This story is about far more than elderberry syrup.

Because taking the time to learn our story means more than you probably realize.

When I made my first batch of elderberry syrup in our kitchen, I never imagined it would grow into what it is today. I wasn't trying to build a business. I was simply trying to support my family and create something I felt good about having in our home.

What happened next was never part of my plan.

But looking back, I can see God's hand in every step of the journey.

The late nights.

The hard seasons.

The answered prayers.

The people who believed in us before we fully believed in ourselves.

Every bottle we make is a reminder of where we started and why we continue.

Not because we're trying to be the biggest.

But because we genuinely believe families deserve products made with integrity, ingredients they recognize, and a company they can trust.

Before every decision we make, we still ask ourselves one question:

"Would we give this to our own family?"

If the answer isn't yes, we don't do it.

That question guided us around our kitchen table in the beginning.

And it still guides us today.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here.

Thank you for supporting our family, our mission, and the work we feel called to do.

It's an honor to be a small part of your wellness journey.

With faith and gratitude,

Jessica Lowery
